Homework takes hours, directions disappear, organization breaks down, or small frustrations become large reactions.
Worry may appear as perfectionism, irritability, reassurance-seeking, sleep problems, avoidance, or a need to control.
Reactions feel bigger, faster, or harder to recover from than the situation seems to explain.
Meltdowns, defiance, arguing, withdrawal, or school refusal have begun to organize family life.
A highly capable child is struggling in ways that grades or simple explanations do not capture.
WHAT THE WORK INCLUDES
CBT, emotion-focused approaches, and somatic approaches are used when clinically appropriate and adapted to how the child communicates.
Parents are central with younger children. With adolescents, privacy is balanced with parent involvement, safety, and clear expectations.
Treatment considers strengths, development, relationships, school, family patterns, and the function of the visible behavior.
Care is available in person in Flagstaff. Telehealth is considered where appropriate; suitability depends on age, needs, and legal requirements.
A SIMPLE PROCESS
Begin with the concern, strengths, context, what has been tried, and the practical details of care.
Clarify whether therapy, parent coaching, assessment, or another service is the best starting point.
Set focused goals, involve parents appropriately, and adjust based on the child’s response.
