PAI & MCMI-IV
Comprehensive measures that look beneath surface symptoms to understand current emotional functioning, coping styles, and foundational personality patterns.
FlagstaffPsychology & CounselingTHERAPEUTIC ASSESSMENT
Talk therapy without a clear map can lead down the wrong path. Therapeutic Assessment replaces trial and error with a collaborative understanding of how your mind and nervous system have adapted—and what will actually help.

We are looking to see whether one core experience can explain what you have been going through. Rather than simply taking tests, this is a collaborative process designed to discover exactly how your mind and nervous system have adapted to your life experiences.
The result is a precise treatment plan that gets every subsequent therapy session closer to the root.
WHAT THE ASSESSMENT INCLUDES
Comprehensive measures that look beneath surface symptoms to understand current emotional functioning, coping styles, and foundational personality patterns.
A guided, structured exploration of foundational memories, emotional tones, and core beliefs that helps connect your present-day patterns to their roots.
Behind-the-scenes scoring and analysis that disentangles overlapping symptoms and combines the data with your history and lived experience.
A dedicated session to discuss the findings, answer your questions, and finalize a custom roadmap for treatment and lasting change.
BEYOND THE LABEL
The Personality Assessment Inventory maps your current emotional landscape and measures the intensity of symptoms. It can help separate overlapping experiences—for example, whether difficulty concentrating points toward ADHD or reflects a nervous system flooded by anxiety or trauma.
It also helps us gauge your available bandwidth for treatment and anticipate roadblocks. If the results show that you are highly overwhelmed, we do not begin by digging into deep trauma. We begin by building internal resources and emotional safety.
While the PAI examines your current state, the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory looks at the foundational structures and adaptations that developed to keep you safe.
It may show that depression, anxiety, or obsessive symptoms are secondary responses that appeared when long-standing survival strategies—such as emotional walls or people-pleasing—stopped working. That changes the target of therapy from surface symptoms to the foundation beneath them.
UNCOVERING YOUR “WHY”
Objective psychological measures show patterns. Early memories illuminate the emotional world in which those patterns developed. In a safe, structured process, we explore specific early childhood memories, the roles you played, and how you understood yourself and other people in those moments.
By connecting your past experiences with your current survival strategies, we can distinguish between treating a symptom and healing the root of the distress.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
No. The aim is usually the opposite: to determine whether one underlying experience better explains symptoms that have previously been treated separately. We also want to rule things out confidently so you can stop carrying labels that do not fit.
If the primary issue is ADHD and generalized anxiety, treatment may emphasize executive-function strategies and anxious thinking. If the same symptoms are rooted in trauma, coaching alone may fail or feel invalidating. Treatment would instead emphasize safety, nervous-system regulation, and processing the underlying experiences.
No. Standardized measures are one source of information. Your questions, personal history, early memories, clinical conversation, and the collaborative feedback session are all essential to the final understanding.
You receive a three-dimensional understanding of the patterns shaping your experience and a targeted roadmap: the recommended pace, interventions likely to fit your nervous system, likely treatment barriers, and the core beliefs the work should address.
